Can you feel the heat or is it more of a simmering glow within?

It's a warm and fuzzy feeling regardless when you're team sits pretty atop the table on 12 pristine points.

Seek out a  Dragons' supporter this Autumn and you'll make a lifelong friend. A connection forged on the back of  six lean years in the wilderness. A smile, a recounting of six solid performances and you'll be Snap Chatting and Facebook- liking each other down the aisle for sure.

When there's red-hot form full of blistering attack and piping hot defence to feast on, all is well with the world. This champion side is sticking it up all and sundry.

The players have proved the pundits wrong. So too it would seem have Mary McGregor and Ian Milward who's recruitment and retention strategy is simmering nicely.

Whether it's pulsating Packer slipping the pill to a wily Widdop, V8 Vaughan stealing more metres than Carl Lewis, the revelation that is Tim Lafai or the steely cover defending Cameron McInnes – Sattler-esque in his execution – Saints have hit the ground running and caught everyone on the blind side.

Friz no longer shoulders all the work, JDB has risen above the pack, Thommo is terrific, Gypsy is evergreen and Duges is set to return. There are so many positives across the red and white spectrum.

Still the media is gun shy.  Burnt by prior predictions, commentary is  routinely restricting to a paltry column or boxed snippet of news attesting to the Big Red V's accomplishments thus far. Simply gobsmacked they are at how a team shaped as wooden spooners currently sits  above the melee of muscle men.

It's chewy on your boot to all betting agencies too. Will they dare to offer front-page odds to STGID in the premiership stakes?

The 30-minute blowtorch applied by the Cowboys during the second half of  the round six fixture is the perfect prep for the  Anzac Day clash against the Roosters. This match matches, if not betters, any Grand Final  between two bristling teams.

Win, lose or draw,  let it rain, hail and lightening bolt down on Allianz.

In the car, on the train or on the bus, strip of your shirt and throttle up "Oh When the Saints", for whatever lies ahead they have indeed marched in season 2017 and are set to send more feathers flying come April 25.

Predictions?  V8 Vaughan to cross close to the sticks, twice!
