Mata's nasty dislocation and JDB's polaxing bookended a disastrous day for the Dragons last weekend.

Blame games have begun, knives are out and everyone's an expert. But a week's a long time in footy. In the last seven days the Roosters copped a towelling and sit beneath us on the table, and the Panthers bagged a win against the competition heavyweights. So there is a God.

Not sure what was worse last week; the scoreline or Mary's deflated manner at the press conference. The poor bloke looked like he had endured 16 rounds without a win, not two.

But hope springs eternal: think Steven Bradbury sweeping all before him to claim an Olympic Gold Medal. It can be done and the Red V will go one better than last season, possibly two. It starts today.

My nails are raw, I still swear at the TV, roll on the floor when the pill is spilled and bight back at 'mates' who text me every time the score is against us. Losing is one of life's hard-earned lessons but at the ripe old age of 50 score and something, it aint getting any easier for me.

And so, if the Easter bunny was to come early and ease my nerves, I'd forgo smashing a few Lindt bunnies for breakfast next Sunday and instead settle on a few treats in the form of....

* Duges getting back to where he belongs

* Direct running and second phase play

* Sticking with Euan and starting with Havili

It's not a lot to ask for is it?

As we settle in our SCG seats on this soggy Sunday in Sydney, there might be a drought inland and in the trophy room but Mary has the Show cattle. Some are in the wrong paddock but it's too early to truck the whole herd to an abattoir.
